Lori Probst, an acclaimed artist, and an internationally award-winning underwater photographer, is known for her arresting underwater portraits that push the possibilities of movement, color, and light.
As a 35-year certified scuba diver, Lori leveraged her knowledge of photographing and post-processing marine life across the globe, from tranquil waters in Indonesia to natural treasures in Honduras, creating an underwater photographing experience like no other.
Today, in addition to running Saint Louis-based Probst Portraits studio, this nurse of 20 years turned photographer generously shares her vast knowledge and expertise with other aspiring underwater photographers. With a hands-on approach, several professional photographer degrees, and a passion for teaching, Lori coaches enthusiasts and students on the art of underwater photography. Lori’s class “Dive into Underwater Portraiture” covers everything from discipline on holding breath and poses below the surface to underwater conditions, equipment essentials, and highly nuanced post-processing techniques that turn dull imagery to clear and vibrant.
When Lori is not in her studio or underwater, she spends time with her husband Jim of 37 years, three children, five grandchildren, and dogs. Doing their part to help the environment, Lori and Jim are also raising Monarch Butterflies from egg to release. They’ve released over four thousand iconic species into the world.
